Hot tips for humid air

The following will make it easier to achieve optimal air humidification.

What is the ideal location for an air humidifier?
Where possible, the air humidifier should be free-standing, so that the air around the appliance can circulate freely. Particularly ideal is a location where there is an average room climate, so not close to an outside wall, windows, doors or thermal bridges.

Why does condensation occur on windows and wallpaper, even when the hygrometer indicates an ideal air humidity of 55%?
Condensation on windows and wallpaper is an indication of the presence of thermal bridges where the temperature is lower than in the rest of the room. In these locations, the air is able to carry less moisture, thus resulting in condensation.

What can be done if the moisture content of the air does not reach ideal levels, despite the use of an air humidifier?
This situation can have several causes:

  • In order to guarantee satisfactory operation, the capacity of the air humidifier must be suitable for the size of the room. Check the manufacturer's information.
  • If the air humidifier is near a thermal bridge, this can have a negative effect on its performance.
The appliance must therefore be re-positioned.
  • It is possible that the room is being aired too frequently. With every airing, the air in the room becomes drier.
  • Moisture binding materials such as carpet, curtains, furniture and other textiles always absorb moisture first. If there are many fabric items in the room, this will delay the achievement of optimal air humidity.
