Questions for the Air Washers 1355N and 2055

When I fill the water tank and I put it back on the unit, why does all the water go directly into the base?
Water is needed in the base of the unit for the removal of particles from the air, and for the humidification of the air. The first time the tank is filled up and placed on the unit, all of the water will go into the base of the unit. The water tank acts as a reserve, and may be filled up a second time to have extra water available.

If my unit runs dry is that ok?
If there is a possibility that you will be unable to add water to the unit and it will run dry, turn the unit off before you leave. The unit will not be able to remove particles from the air if there is no water, and you may notice a foul odor.

Can this unit be used all year round?
Yes, the unit can be used all year round. The unit produces relative humidity which means that the air will only take as much moisture as it can hold. The unit will not over-humidify the air.

If there is no water left in my water tank, for how many hours will the water in base last?
An exact answer cannot be given for this as there are many factors that depend on how long the water will last for. It all depends on the size of the room, if it is very dry, among other things to know how quickly water will evaporate into the air. If you notice that there is no water left in the water tank, it is always a good idea to refill the tank to have extra water available.

Is it ok to put my humidifying plates in the dishwasher?
The plates can only be placed in a dishwasher where the temperature is no greater than 55ºC. If the temperature is any hotter than this, the plates will melt. Place the plates in a sink filled with warm water and white vinegar and either let them soak or spin the plates in this solution. Or, add white vinegar to the water in the base of the unit and let the unit run for an hour to clean the plates. It is good to have calcium deposits built up on the plates as it will capture more particles from the air and add more moisture to the air.

What is MicroPur and where can I find it?
MicroPur is no longer needed for the AOS 1355 and has been replaced by the ISS. The ISS works the same way as the MicroPur in preventing bacteria and mold from growing in the unit. The only difference is that the ISS gets placed in the base of the unit and needs to be replaced once a year. MicroPur was a solution that needed to be added to the water tank every time it was filled.

Questions for the Combi Unit AOS2071

My unit is leaking water all over the floor. How can I make it stop?
a. Check the water tanks to see if they have any hairline cracks. This can cause a change in the water tanks and it will begin leaking water.
b. Test the water tanks by running the unit with one water tank at a time. If the leaking begins when one of the water tanks is on the unit, than that water tank needs to be replaced. It could be a hairline crack, or the spring that releases that water is worn.

General Humidifier Questions

Why isn’t there enough moisture in my room?
How often do you run the unit? If the unit is only run at night, then during the day the moisture level will drop if moisture is not constantly added to the air.

Do you leave your door open or closed when the unit is running?
a. By leaving the door open, this allows moisture to leave the room and go into other areas of the house. If you would like the moisture to stay within one specific room you should consider closing the door while the unit is running.
b. Wood, leather, carpet, curtains, and other types of fabric soak up a lot of moisture, thus not leaving enough moisture for the air. If the window is left open, then this allows moisture to escape the room. Another factor is a lot of times the unit is placed next to a heating device. The idea is that the air blowing into the room will quickly place moisture around the room. Unfortunately, this concept does not work because the hot air coming out of a vent will soak up most of the moisture, and none of the air within the room will receive any.

How much moisture do I need in my room?
Suggested humidity levels are between 40 – 60%.

What are the effects of too little or too much humidity?
Dry air can cause dry skin, static electricity, out of tune musical instruments, increased levels of dust (dry air causes dust to rise), damage to wooden objects (dry out and eventually cracks appear), discomfort, sickness, and dries out nasal membranes. Over-humidifying the air can cause mold and wallpaper to peel.

Why do I need a humidifier when I can just open my window?
The moisture level within the outside air is not high enough to humidify a room.

Where should I place my humidifier?
The unit should be free-standing and not close to a wall, window, door, or thermal bridge so that air may circulate around the unit.

Questions for the Ultrasonic 7135

A light that says “Clean” is appearing on my display. I have cleaned my unit and the symbol does not disappear.
This symbol is a timed function that will appear approximately every 14 days; it is not a sensor that knows if your unit is dirty. This reminder is to look in the white base and see if there is any build up of deposits. If there is, these can be cleaned with a solution of white vinegar and warm water; the ratio is 1:2. There is also a brush that comes with the unit, and the bristle portion should be used to clean around the membrane. After the unit is cleaned, it will need to be reset to clear the clean symbol from the display. Hold down the On/Off button until it clears from the display. The instructions for this are also on page 11 of your manual.

I have filled my water tank, the unit is not producing vapor, and there is a water drop with a line symbol on my display. What do I do?
The water sensor for the unit is in the base, and the water needs time to cycle from the water tank to the base. Leave the unit on for approximately 15 minutes and the unit will begin producing vapor. If in this time frame the unit does not begin producing vapor, there may be too many granules in the cartridge. Remove one tablespoon of granules from the cartridge and turn unit on again.

The manual refers to a brush symbol but I have a “Clean” symbol appearing.
The brush symbol was replaced by the clean symbol. Follow all instructions in manual relating to the brush symbol.

Questions for all Ultrasonics

Why does it say open/close on the demineralization cartridge cap?
Those directions are there in case you decide to use the refill option to replace the granules; the purpose is for how to open and close the cap. If you did open the cap before placing it in the water tank, you will most likely notice that there are granules in the water tank and the base of the unit. Immediately turn off the unit, and empty the water out of the base and the water tank. Begin removing all granules from base and water tank. Use brush to clean around membrane. Caution: Do not dispose of granules in sink! Used granules must go in waste!

I just replaced my cartridge, and the contents and water in the base has turned a blue-green color.
This sometimes occurs when the cartridge, or even the granules, are replaced. This does not occur with all replacement cartridges or granules, and is a reaction of water content and the Ultrasonic vibrations. This is not an indicator to replace the cartridge.

There is no fill-line on the water tank, how far may I fill it up?
There is no fill line on the water tank, and it may be filled all the way to the top.

What is the purpose of the demineralization cartridge (DMC)?
The DMC removes minerals from the water to prevent white dust as much as possible. The contents of the cartridge need to be soaked for 24 hrs prior to first using the unit so that they may fully expand and remove minerals from the water. The contents of the DMC have a life of 2-3 months. The cartridge may need to be replaced more often depending on water hardness and how often the unit is used. An indication of when the DMC needs to be changed can be white dust or reduced amount of vapor output.

Is it ok to use distilled water with the unit?
For best results with your ultrasonic humidifier use distilled or reverse-osmosis water and remove the demineralization cartridge.

I just replaced the contents of the cartridge and now have granules everywhere.
First, make sure there are no granules in the middle of the cartridge. Placing granules in the middle of the DMC allows them to escape everywhere. Immediately turn off the unit, and empty the water out of the base and the water tank. Begin removing all granules from base and water tank. Use brush to clean around membrane. For refilling the DMC, wad a piece of paper or paper towel and place in the middle of the DMC. For placing granules in the cartridge, a suggestion is to use a spoon so that no granules get in the middle of the cartridge. Caution: Do not dispose of granules in sink! Used granules must go in waste!

The directions tell me not to place the unit directly on the floor, why do I have to elevate the unit?
The idea with this unit is to allow one to force more humidity into the air than is needed. Because of this, the carpeting or wood floor surrounding the unit may become damp. If the unit is placed at least 2 feet off the floor, the vapor will have the opportunity to evaporate before hitting the floor.
