One in five Central Europeans suffers from allergies

Indoor air is laden with numerous pathogens, such as mold spores, bacteria, animal hairs and danders, and above all house dust allergens. Pollen is by far the most common trigger of allergies at about 50 percent, followed by animal dander (25%). It is believed that at this time one in ten Central Europeans suffer from hay fever.

The number of allergy sufferers continues increasing dramatically, in step with the levels of pollution in our air. Today one in three people is affected by an allergic condition. The economy is not immune to this either. Over 30 percent of absenteeism in the workplace can be traced to respiratory diseases. Neither is it surprising to learn that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates indoor pollutant levels as one of the five biggest environmental risks for our health.
